Heavy liquide intercontinental ballistic missile - missile for replacement of the RS-20 / R-36 / SS-18 SATAN ICBMs.

Developers:
- Makeev GRTs (State Rocket Center, Miass, the lead developer)
- NPO Mashinostroyenia (Reutov)
- NPO Energomash (engines)
- KBSM (launch equipment)
Some of reserchers had idea about possibility of cooperation with Yuzhnoye Design Bureau (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) - it was possible before 2014.

Developing: first information about development of Sarmat was published at 2009. The terms of reference for the development of ICBMs was approved in 2011 and the technical development for the "Sarmat" was begin in 2012.

Tests: first ICBM Sarmat for ejection tests was ready from industry at november 2015 but with several different reasons first launch was delayed to 2017 - engines, truobles with pant, not ready test-site. Media wrote in 2017 that to the end of year plant must build three missiles for ejection tests.

Yubileynaya test-site at Plesetsk with process of loading Sarmat at his silo


Production of Sarmat missiles was established at main plant of Makeev produce cooperation - Krasnoyarsk Machinebuilding Plant. Contract to produce firsts Sarmats was begin in 2011. And in 2014 production was begin.

Employment of Sarmat ICBM will begin at 2021 at Uzhur (Krasnoyarsk region) RVSN division (as we know now at 2020) and later at Dombarovsky. But in 2015 they said about employment in 2018. My forecast for now - 2023-2025. 

19.11.2019 Ru MoD said that all works for emplayment will be finished at 2021 (ref).

Launch equipment: silo launch complex 15P728 similar to silo compexes for heavy ICBMs like R-36M / R-36M2 SATAN. Developer - KBSM.

Missile 15A28 Sarmat
Three stages missile with liquide engines. At first stage used engine similar to 15D285 for SATAN ICBM. Similar liquide engines used at second and third stages.


Guidance: autonomic inertial guidance system with most modern hyroscop system.

Technical data of Sarmat missle:
Length - 32 m
Diameter - 3 m
Start weight - 200 000 kg
Payload weight - 10 000 kg (with upper stage for MIRV/MARV)
Range - 11 000 km
CEP - 100-150 m

Payload:
1. 10-15 MIRV's with several devices of anti-ABM complex
2. 3-5 MARV like object 4202 / 15Yu71
